  3. Aujourd’hui, nous allons apprendre le Discours indirect au Passé, un sujet important pour rapporter ce que quelqu’un a dit dans le passé.

Today we will study indirect speech in the past — an important topic used to report what someone said earlier.

  4. Le discours indirect permet de transmettre les paroles d’une personne sans citer ses mots exacts, souvent en utilisant des verbes comme “dire”, “penser”, “croire”, etc., et en adaptant la conjugaison du verbe selon le temps du contexte.

Indirect speech allows you to convey the meaning of someone’s words without quoting them exactly, usually with verbs like “to say”, “to think”, “to believe”, and by changing the verb tense according to the context.

  5. Comment former le discours indirect au Passé?

How is indirect speech in the past formed?

  6. Pour rapporter des paroles au passé, on utilise généralement le passé du verbe introducteur (souvent l’imparfait ou le passé composé) suivi d’un verbe au subjonctif imparfait ou plus-que-parfait.

To report speech that was expressed in the past, the reporting verb is used in a past tense (such as the imperfect or the past perfect), followed by a verb in the imperfect subjunctive or the pluperfect.

  7. Exemples:

    Examples:

  8. Il a dit: “Je suis fatigué.” → Il a dit qu’il était fatigué.

He said: “I am tired.” → He said that he was tired.

  9. Elle a expliqué: “J’ai fini mon travail.” → Elle a expliqué qu’elle avait fini son travail.

She explained: “I have finished my work.” → She explained that she had finished her work.

  10. Les règles principales:

    Main rules:

  11. Si la phrase principale est au passé composé, au passé simple ou à l’imparfait, on utilise souvent le subjonctif imparfait dans la subordonnée.

If the main clause is in the past, the subordinate clause usually uses the imperfect subjunctive.

  12. Si la phrase principale est au présent ou au futur, on peut utiliser le présent ou le futur dans la subordonnée (pas de changement).

If the main clause is in the present or the future, the tense in the subordinate clause usually stays the same.

  13. Comment conjuguer le verbe dans le discours indirect?

How does the verb change in indirect speech?

  14. Si la phrase rapportée est au présent ou au futur, on garde le même temps dans la subordonnée.

If the original sentence was in the present or the future, the tense remains unchanged.

  15. Si la phrase rapportée est au passé, on utilise généralement le subjonctif imparfait ou plus-que-parfait.

If the original sentence was in the past, the imperfect subjunctive or the pluperfect is commonly used.
