История рассказывает о старом рыбаке по имени Сантьяго. Он живёт у моря и каждый день ходит на рыбалку.

The story is about an old fisherman named Santiago. He lives near the sea and goes fishing every day.

Сантьяго бедный и очень уставший. Он много дней не может поймать ни одной рыбы.

Santiago is poor and very tired. He does not catch any fish for many days.

Мальчик по имени Манолин любит Сантьяго. Мальчик помогает ему и верит в него.

A young boy named Manolin likes Santiago. The boy helps him and believes in him.

Однажды Сантьяго уходит далеко в море один. Он хочет поймать большую рыбу.

One day Santiago goes far into the sea alone. He wants to catch a big fish.

Через долгое время очень большая рыба клюёт. Сантьяго борется с рыбой много дней.

After a long time a very big fish takes the line. Santiago fights with the fish for many days.

Старику больно, он голоден и устал. Но он не сдаётся.

The old man is in pain, hungry, and tired. But he does not give up.

В конце Сантьяго ловит большую рыбу. Он привязывает её к лодке и плывёт домой.

At last Santiago catches the big fish. He ties it to his boat and goes home.

По дороге приходят акулы и съедают рыбу. Сантьяго борется с ними, но теряет мясо.

On the way sharks come and eat the fish. Santiago fights them but loses the meat.

Когда Сантьяго возвращается, остаются только кости рыбы.

When Santiago comes back, only the bones of the fish stay.

Люди видят большой скелет и уважают старика.

The people see the big skeleton and respect the old man.

Сантьяго засыпает. Мальчик остаётся с ним и хочет снова рыбачить вместе.

Santiago goes to sleep. The boy stays with him and wants to fish with him again.
