A Funny Incident

Un jour ensoleillé, David se dépêchait pour retrouver ses amis dans un café du centre-ville.

One sunny day, David was hurrying to meet his friends at a café in the city center.

Il était un peu en retard, alors il marchait vite, en écrivant sur son téléphone et sans regarder autour de lui.

He was running a bit late, so he walked quickly, texting on his phone and not looking around.

En passant devant les vitrines, il aperçut soudain dans le reflet un homme portant une veste rose vif, qui agitait énergiquement les bras.

As he passed by shop windows, he suddenly noticed in the reflection a man in a bright pink jacket, waving his arms energetically.

David pensa que cet homme lui faisait un signe important et s’arrêta.

David thought the man was signaling something important to him and stopped.

L’homme s’approcha et, à seulement quelques pas, éclata de rire.

The man came closer and, just a few steps away, burst out laughing.

Il s’avéra qu’il faisait signe à son ami qui marchait juste derrière David, et qu’il ne cherchait pas du tout à attirer son attention.

It turned out he was waving to his friend who was walking right behind David, not trying to get David’s attention at all.

David se mit aussi à rire, se sentant un peu gêné mais amusé.

David laughed too, feeling a little awkward but amused.

Les passants qui avaient remarqué la scène souriaient et se regardaient.

Passersby who had seen the scene smiled and exchanged glances.

Quand l’homme et son ami s’éloignèrent, David reprit sa route, toujours souriant.

When the man and his friend walked away, David continued on his way, still smiling.

Il pensa que parfois, on peut par hasard se retrouver au centre de l’histoire de quelqu’un d’autre et offrir quelques minutes de bonne humeur à des inconnus.

He thought that sometimes you can accidentally become part of someone else’s story and give strangers a few moments of good mood.
