Le panier lourd

Un jour, un garçon devait apporter un grand panier à sa grand-mère.

One day, a boy had to take a large basket to his grandmother.

Le panier était plein et très lourd.

The basket was full and very heavy.

Son petit frère Tom décida de l'accompagner.

His little brother Tom decided to go with him.

Les frères trouvèrent un long bâton et le placèrent sous l'anse du panier.

The brothers found a long pole and put it under the handle of the basket.

Chacun prit une extrémité du bâton.

Each boy took one end of the pole.

Ainsi, il était beaucoup plus facile de porter le panier.

This made the basket much easier to carry.

En chemin, le frère aîné regarda le panier et réfléchit.

On the way, the older brother looked at the basket and thought for a moment.

S'il le rapprochait de Tom, Tom porterait plus de poids.

If he moved it closer to Tom, Tom would have to carry more weight.

Et son propre côté deviendrait beaucoup plus léger.

And his own side would become much lighter.

Tom était petit et ne le remarquerait peut-être pas.

Tom was small and might not notice.

Mais le frère aîné ne voulait pas le tromper.

But the older brother did not want to trick him.

Il déplaça doucement le panier vers son propre côté du bâton.

He quietly moved the basket closer to his own end of the pole.

Maintenant, le panier était plus lourd pour lui et plus léger pour Tom.

Now it was heavier for him and lighter for Tom.

Les frères continuèrent leur chemin, et le frère aîné souriait.

The brothers continued on their way, and the older brother smiled.
