Первый день на работе

Фил начал новую работу в большом магазине на Франклин-стрит.

Phil started a new job in a big store on Franklin Street.

В первое утро он пришёл рано. Теперь он был посыльным.

On his first morning, he arrived early. He was now the errand boy.

Молодой продавец спросил: «Ты будешь здесь работать?» Фил ответил: «Да».

A young salesman asked, “Are you going to work here?” Phil said, “Yes.”

Его работа была простой: ходить на почту, в банк и выполнять другие поручения.

His job was simple: go to the post office, the bank, and do other errands.

Скоро начальник сказал: «Иди на почту и принеси письма из ящика 534».

Soon the boss said, “Go to the post office and get the letters from box 534.”

Фил взял ключ и вышел на улицу. Тут он понял проблему: он не знал, где почта.

Phil took the key and went outside. Then he saw the problem: he did not know where the post office was.

Он пошёл к Бродвею и встретил молодого чистильщика обуви.

He walked toward Broadway and met a young shoe cleaner.

«Где почта?» — спросил Фил. «На Нассау-стрит», — ответил парень.

“Where is the post office?” Phil asked. “On Nassau Street,” the boy answered.

Фил предложил ему десять центов, и парень показал дорогу.

Phil offered him ten cents, and the boy showed him the way.

Вскоре они пришли на почту. Фил открыл ящик и забрал письма компании.

Soon they reached the post office. Phil opened the box and got the company’s letters.
