Тяжёлая корзина

Однажды мальчик должен был отнести большую корзину своей бабушке.

One day, a boy had to take a large basket to his grandmother.

Корзина была полной и очень тяжёлой.

The basket was full and very heavy.

Его младший брат Том решил пойти вместе с ним.

His little brother Tom decided to go with him.

Братья нашли длинную палку и положили её под ручку корзины.

The brothers found a long pole and put it under the handle of the basket.

Каждый взял палку за свой конец.

Each boy took one end of the pole.

Так нести корзину стало намного легче.

This made the basket much easier to carry.

По дороге старший брат посмотрел на корзину и задумался.

On the way, the older brother looked at the basket and thought for a moment.

Если передвинуть её ближе к Тому, Том будет нести больше.

If he moved it closer to Tom, Tom would have to carry more weight.

А его собственная сторона станет намного легче.

And his own side would become much lighter.

Том был маленьким и мог этого не заметить.

Tom was small and might not notice.

Но старший брат не захотел его обманывать.

But the older brother did not want to trick him.

Он тихо передвинул корзину ближе к своему концу палки.

He quietly moved the basket closer to his own end of the pole.

Теперь ему было тяжелее, а Тому — легче.

Now it was heavier for him and lighter for Tom.

Братья продолжили дорогу, и старший брат улыбался.

The brothers continued on their way, and the older brother smiled.
