Lección 9: Pasado Simple
Today we will learn how to talk about actions that happened in the past.
Hoy aprenderemos cómo hablar de acciones que ocurrieron en el pasado.

To form the past simple of regular verbs, add -ed to the base form.
Para formar el pasado simple de los verbos regulares, se añade -ed a la raíz del verbo.
play → played
jugar → jugó
work → worked
trabajar → trabajó
visit → visited
visitar → visitó
Examples:
Ejemplos:
I play football. → I played football. (yesterday / two years ago)
Yo juego al fútbol. → Yo jugué al fútbol. (ayer / hace dos años)
She works at the office. → She worked at the office.
Ella trabaja en la oficina. → Ella trabajó en la oficina.
They visit their friends. → They visited their friends.
Ellos visitan a sus amigos. → Ellos visitaron a sus amigos.

Irregular verbs do not follow the -ed rule. They must be memorized.
Los verbos irregulares no siguen la regla de añadir -ed. Hay que memorizarlos.

To make a sentence negative, use did not (didn’t) + base verb.
Para hacer una oración negativa, se usa “did not” (didn’t) + verbo en forma base.
Examples:
Ejemplos:
I played football. → I did not play football.
Yo jugué al fútbol. → Yo no jugué al fútbol.
She worked at the office. → She did not work at the office.
Ella trabajó en la oficina. → Ella no trabajó en la oficina.
They visited their friends. → They did not visit their friends.
Ellos visitaron a sus amigos. → Ellos no visitaron a sus amigos.

To form questions, use Did at the beginning + subject + base verb.
Para hacer preguntas, se coloca “Did” al inicio + sujeto + verbo en forma base.
Examples:

She worked at the office. → Did she work at the office?
