Un día junto al mar

Ayer Mary fue al mar con su padre, su hermano Charles y su hermana Lucy. Llevaron comida y decidieron pasar allí todo el día.

Yesterday Mary went to the beach with her father, her brother Charles, and her sister Lucy. They took some food and decided to spend the whole day there.

Su padre y Charles subieron a una pequeña barca y fueron a pescar cerca de la orilla. Mary y Lucy se quedaron junto al agua y recogieron bonitas algas.

Her father and Charles got into a small boat and went fishing near the shore. Mary and Lucy stayed by the water and collected beautiful seaweed.

Las chicas se quitaron los zapatos y entraron en el agua poco profunda. Tenían un pequeño cubo para guardar todo lo que encontraban.

The girls took off their shoes and walked into the shallow water. They had a small bucket for everything they found.

Las algas eran de diferentes colores: moradas, rosas y marrones. En el agua, algunas parecían plumas y otras parecían pequeños árboles.

The seaweed had many colors: purple, pink, and brown. In the water, some of it looked like feathers, and some looked like little trees.

Entonces le pasó algo gracioso a Lucy. Pisó una piedra resbaladiza y de repente cayó directamente al agua.

Then something funny happened to Lucy. She stepped on a slippery stone and suddenly fell right into the water.

Al principio Lucy se sorprendió, pero después ella y Mary empezaron a reír. El vestido de Lucy estaba mojado, pero el sol y el viento lo secaron pronto.

At first Lucy was surprised, but then she and Mary started to laugh. Lucy's dress was wet, but the sun and the wind soon dried it.

Un poco más tarde, su padre volvió a buscar a las chicas. Las llevó en la barca y dieron un pequeño paseo por el agua.

A little later, their father came back for the girls. He took them into the boat, and they went for a short ride on the water.

Después, toda la familia hizo un picnic en el bosque cerca de la playa. Comieron juntos y, después, su padre puso su abrigo sobre la hierba y se tumbó a descansar.

Then the whole family had a picnic in the woods near the beach. They ate together, and after lunch their father put his coat on the grass and lay down to rest.

Mientras su padre dormía, los niños volvieron a jugar en la playa. Así terminó su divertido día junto al mar.

While their father slept, the children played on the beach again. That was the end of their happy day by the sea.
