¡Hola, buenos días! Bienvenidos al curso de español de LingTrio.
Hello! Welcome to the LingTrio Spanish course.
Hoy vamos a conjugar y aprender a diferenciar los verbos “saber” y “conocer”, veremos la III conjugación de verbos en presente, empezaremos a emplear frases “Me gusta” y “Me gustan” y os enseñaré el vocabulario “Aficiones”. ¿Os parece bien? Pues ¡vamos allá!
Today we are going to conjugate and learn to distinguish the verbs “saber” (to know) and “conocer” (to be acquainted with, to know), look at the third conjugation of verbs in the present tense, start using the phrases “I like” (Me gusta) and “I like” in the plural form (Me gustan), and learn vocabulary on the topic “Hobbies.” Shall we start?
“SABER” Y “CONOCER”
“SABER” AND “CONOCER”
Empezaremos por los verbos “saber” y “conocer”. El verbo “saber” se conjuga como cualquier verbo de la II conjugación, pero cambia en la 1ª persona del singular. Se dice:
Let’s start with the verbs “saber” and “conocer.” The verb “saber” is conjugated like any verb of the second conjugation, but it changes in the first person singular. We say:
Yo sé
I know
O: Yo no sé
Or: I don’t know
El verbo “conocer”, que también es de la II conjugación, tiene una 1ª persona del singular similar a otros verbos terminados en -cer (como “parecer”, que vimos en la lección anterior):
The verb “conocer,” which also belongs to the second conjugation, has a first person singular similar to other verbs ending in -cer (like “parecer” — “to seem,” which we saw in the previous lesson):
Yo conozco
I know / I am acquainted with
O: Yo no conozco
Or: I don’t know / I am not acquainted with
Ahora veamos los usos de estos dos verbos.
Now let’s look at the uses of these two verbs.
1. Usamos el verbo “saber” para hablar de conocimientos adquiridos, habilidades o información:
1. We use the verb “saber” to talk about acquired knowledge, skills, or information:

I know mathematics.
Verónica sabe francés.
Verónica knows French.
Mi hijo sabe mucho sobre el cosmos.
My son knows a lot about the cosmos.
Sé que estudiar el chino es difícil.
I know that studying Chinese is difficult.
¿Sabes dónde hay una farmacia por aquí?
Do you know where there is a pharmacy around here?
2. Usamos “conocer” cuando hablamos de experiencias personales con personas, lugares u objetos:
2. We use “conocer” when we talk about personal experiences with people, places, or objects:
Conozco a Carlos.
I know Carlos.
¿Conocéis Madrid? No, sólo conocemos el centro de Madrid.
Do you know Madrid? — No, we only know the center of Madrid.
Mi hermana conoce a mucha gente de esta ciudad.
My sister knows many people from this city.
¿Conoces esta canción?
Do you know this song?
Importante: con personas usamos la preposición “a”: conocer a alguien. Con lugares u objetos no es necesaria.
Important: with people we use the preposition “a” — to know someone. With places or objects, it’s not necessary.
Víctor conoce a esta chica. Víctor conoce este restaurante.
Víctor knows this girl. Víctor knows this restaurant.
