Today we will study the Past Imperfect tense of the Indicative Mood for verbs of the 2nd and 3rd conjugations, learn ordinal numbers and review the ones most commonly used in everyday life, and finally talk about the difference between “so” and “so much.” Ready to continue? Let’s go!
PRETÉRITO IMPERFECTO DE LOS VERBOS DE LA II Y III CONJUGACIÓN
PAST IMPERFECT OF THE 2ND AND 3RD CONJUGATIONS
Como bien recordáis, durante la lección anterior empezamos a ver el Pretérito Imperfecto de Indicativo, un tiempo pasado que se utiliza para hablar de algo que no terminó o se repitió en el pasado. Las terminaciones de los verbos de la I conjugación eran: aba, abas, aba, ábamos, abais y aban.
As you remember, in the previous lesson we began learning the Past Imperfect tense of the Indicative Mood — a past tense used to describe actions that were repeated or not completed in the past. For verbs of the 1st conjugation, the endings were: aba, abas, aba, ábamos, abais, aban.
Los verbos de la II y III conjugación tienen otras terminaciones. Vamos a ver los ejemplos:
Verbs of the 2nd and 3rd conjugations have different endings. Here are examples:
Dormir:
To sleep:
yo dormía
I slept
tú dormías
you slept
él, ella, usted dormía
he/she/you (formal) slept
nosotros, nosotras dormíamos
we slept
vosotros, vosotras dormíais
you (plural) slept
ellos, ellas, ustedes dormían
they/you (plural, formal) slept
Dirigir:
To manage/direct:
yo dirigía
I managed
tú dirigías
you managed
él, ella, usted dirigía
he/she/you (formal) managed
nosotros, nosotras dirigíamos
we managed
vosotros, vosotras dirigíais
you (plural) managed
ellos, ellas, ustedes dirigían
they/you (plural, formal) managed

Notas importantes:
Important notes:
1. La raíz del verbo permanece igual que en el infinitivo (no hay diptongos ni cambios de consonante).
1. The verb stem stays the same as in the infinitive (no vowel changes or consonant changes).
2. Todas las formas llevan tilde.
2. All forms have an accent mark.
Ejemplos:
Examples:
Antes este bar siempre abría a las 8 de la mañana.
In the past, this bar always opened at 8 in the morning.
En aquella época, yo no tenía mucho dinero.
At that time, I didn’t have much money.
Todos los días Paco venía a vernos.
Every day he used to come to visit us.
LOS NUMERALES ORDINALES
ORDINAL NUMBERS
Ya vimos los numerales ordinales al principio del curso. Hoy vamos a repasarlos, especialmente los que usamos para indicar filas, pisos de edificios, puestos en concursos, etc.
We have already studied ordinal numbers at the beginning of the course. Today we will review them, especially those used for floors in buildings, positions in competitions, and similar contexts.
Los numerales ordinales funcionan como adjetivos y concuerdan en género y número con el sustantivo:
Ordinal numbers work like adjectives and agree in gender and number with the noun:
María vive en el segundo (piso).
She lives on the second floor.
Este corredor va a quedar tercero.
This runner will finish third.
¡Soy el primero!
I am the first!
Es la primera vez que vengo a esta ciudad.
It’s the first time I’ve been to this city.
Cuando anochece, se ven las primeras estrellas.
When night falls, the first stars appear.
Importante: “primero” y “tercero” se acortan a “primer” y “tercer” delante de sustantivos masculinos singulares:
Important: “first” and “third” in some languages are shortened before masculine singular nouns:
Mira, es mi primer teléfono móvil.
Look, it’s my first mobile phone.
Olivia vive en el tercer piso.
She lives on the third floor.

Atención: en los numerales compuestos como “decimotercero”, solo cambia la terminación al adaptar género y número. Es incorrecto decir “decimosterceros” o “decimacuarta”; lo correcto es “decimoterceros” y “decimocuarta”. También, “decimoctavo” solo lleva una "o". ¡Cuidado al escribirlo!
Note: In compound ordinal numbers such as “twenty-first” or “thirty-second,” only the ending changes for gender and number in some languages. Be careful with spelling.
