LOS DEMOSTRATIVOS DE DISTANCIA MEDIA Y DE LEJANÍA
DEMONSTRATIVES FOR MEDIUM AND FAR DISTANCE
Ya hemos visto el pronombre demostrativo este y sus formas: esta, estos y estas. Este pronombre se utiliza cuando hablamos de un objeto que tenemos justo delante y podemos tocar.
We have already studied the demonstrative pronoun “este” and its forms: esta, estos, and estas. This pronoun is used when we talk about an object that is right in front of us and we can touch it.
En español existen además dos pronombres demostrativos más: ese, que usamos cuando el objeto está a una distancia media, y aquel, cuando está lejos.
In Spanish, there are also two more demonstrative pronouns: “ese” — used when the object is at a medium distance, and “aquel” — used when it is far away.
Ejemplos:
Examples:
Este libro — está aquí y lo podemos tocar.
This book — it is here and we can touch it.
Ese libro — no está tan cerca, pero aún accesible.
That book — not so close, but still accessible.
Aquel libro — está lejos; hay que moverse para alcanzarlo.
That book over there — it is far away; you have to move to reach it.
Estas formas también cambian por género y número:
These forms also change by gender and number:
Masculino: ese, aquel | Femenino: esa, aquella
Masculine: ese, aquel | Feminine: esa, aquella
Plural masculino: esos, aquellos | Plural femenino: esas, aquellas
Plural masculine: esos, aquellos | Plural feminine: esas, aquellas
Ejemplos con la conjunción “y”:
Examples with the conjunction “and”:
Este pan vale 3 euros. ¿Y ese cuánto vale?
This bread costs 3 euros. And how much does that one cost?
Esta tarta vale 15 euros, y aquella vale 20.
This cake costs 15 euros, and that one over there costs 20.
Estos caramelos valen 1 euro, y esos valen 2.
These candies cost 1 euro, and those cost 2.
Estas manzanas valen 5 euros. ¿Y esas? ¿Cuánto valen?
These apples cost 5 euros. And those? How much do they cost?
Fijaos en el cambio del verbo valer. Si el objeto es singular, usamos “vale”:
Note the change in the verb “valer” (to cost). If the object is singular, we use “vale”:
Este pan vale 3 euros.
This bread costs 3 euros.
Si es plural, usamos “valen”:
If it is plural, we use “valen”:
Estas manzanas valen 5 euros.
These apples cost 5 euros.
