Let’s start with some important places in the city.

Commençons par quelques lieux importants dans la ville.

Let’s talk about how to say something exists.

Voyons comment dire que quelque chose existe.

There is — we use it for one thing.

There is — on l’utilise pour une seule chose.

There is a park near my house. (One park)

Il y a un parc près de ma maison. (Un parc)

There are — we use it for two or more things.

There are — on l’utilise pour deux choses ou plus.

There are two banks on this street. (Two banks)

Il y a deux banques dans cette rue. (Deux banques)

Il y a un hôpital dans ma ville.

There are three restaurants near my house.

Il y a trois restaurants près de ma maison.

Let’s learn how to say where something is.

next to – The bank is next to the store.

à côté de – La banque est à côté du magasin.

in front of – The park is in front of the cinema.

en face de – Le parc est en face du cinéma.

behind – The supermarket is behind the school.

derrière – Le supermarché est derrière l’école.

between – The post office is between the bank and the restaurant.

entre – Le bureau de poste est entre la banque et le restaurant.

on the left / on the right – The cinema is on the left.

à gauche / à droite – Le cinéma est à gauche.

opposite – The hospital is opposite the school.

en face de – L’hôpital est en face de l’école.
