Today we will talk about the use of the words “both”, “each”, and “all”, learn vocabulary on the topic “The Year”, and go over how to use the days of the week and the months. Ready? Let’s begin!

  3. EL USO DE “AMBOS”, “CADA” Y “TODO”

    USING “BOTH”, “EACH”, AND “ALL”

  4. Las palabras como “ambos”, “cada” y “todo” se llaman cuantificadores y se utilizan para referirse a varias personas u objetos.

The words “both”, “each”, and “all” are called quantifiers and are used to refer to several people or objects.

  5. Ambos

    Both

  6. “Ambos” es un adjetivo que también se emplea como pronombre y sólo se utiliza en plural, ya que con él nos referimos a dos personas u objetos. Comparad:

The word “both” is an adjective that can also be used as a pronoun and is only used in the plural, as it refers to two people or objects. Examples:

  7. Ambos nietos han venido a verme. / Los dos nietos han venido a verme.

Both grandsons came to visit me. / The two grandsons came to visit me.

  8. ¿Qué abrigo te gusta? – Ambos me gustan. / Los dos me gustan.

Which coat do you like? — I like both. / I like both of them.

  9. Si se trata de sustantivos o pronombres de género femenino, la forma cambia: va a ser “ambas”.

If we are talking about nouns or pronouns of the feminine gender, the form changes to “both” (feminine).

  10. – Al final, ¿te llevas la blusa o la falda? – Pues, no sé, no me decido. Voy a llevar ambas.

    — So, in the end, are you taking the blouse or the skirt? — I don’t know, I can’t decide. I’ll take both.

  11. Lucía y Sofía son compañeras de clase. Ambas son muy trabajadoras.

Lucia and Sofia are classmates. Both are very hardworking.

  12. Cada

    Each

  13. “Cada” es un adjetivo que nos sirve para hablar de los elementos por separado, pero que están en un conjunto. No tiene plural ni cambia por género. Mirad:

The word “each” is used to talk about elements individually, but which are part of a whole group. It has no plural form and does not change for gender. Examples:

  14. Aquí cada bar tiene su terraza.

Here, each bar has its own terrace.

  15. Hago mucho ejercicio y me noto cada día más fuerte.

I exercise a lot and feel stronger each day.

  16. Todo

    All / Whole

  17. “Todo” es otro adjetivo que suele ir delante de un sustantivo y, salvo algunos usos especiales, va seguido de un artículo determinado o indeterminado. Por ejemplo:

The word “all” is another adjective that usually comes before a noun and, except in some special uses, is followed by a definite or indefinite article. Examples:

  18. Vengo aquí todos los días.

    I come here every day.

  19. Héctor ha estado estudiando toda la tarde.

Hector has been studying all afternoon.

  20. Mis padres trabajan todo el fin de semana.

    My parents work all weekend.

  21. Como vemos aquí, su forma depende del sustantivo que va detrás, por eso su número y su género varían:

As we can see, its form depends on the noun that follows, so its number and gender vary:

  22. Ya he terminado todas mis tareas.

I have already finished all my tasks.

  23. ¿Vais a estar en la playa toda la mañana?

Will you be on the beach all morning?

  24. También podemos utilizar “todo” con un pronombre posesivo y un sustantivo detrás:

We can also use “all” with a possessive pronoun and a noun:

  25. Todas mis amigas ya están casadas.

All my friends are already married.

  26. ¿Por qué tengo que aguantar todos tus caprichos?

Why do I have to put up with all your whims?

  27. O con un pronombre demostrativo:

    Or with a demonstrative pronoun:

  28. No me gusta todo este alboroto.

I don’t like all this noise.

  29. Todas estas cosas se pueden hacer gratis.

All these things can be done for free.

    VOCABULARY “THE YEAR”

  31. Y ahora pasamos a ver otra lista de vocabulario. Esta vez van a ser las palabras relacionadas con los días de la semana, meses, estaciones del año, etc.

Now let’s learn words related to the days of the week, months, and seasons of the year.

  35. EL USO DE LOS DÍAS DE LA SEMANA Y LOS MESES

USING DAYS OF THE WEEK AND MONTHS

  36. Los días de la semana y los meses en español se escriben con minúscula. Tanto los días como los meses son sustantivos de género masculino.

In Spanish, days of the week and months are written with a lowercase letter. Both days of the week and months are masculine nouns.

  37. Los días de la semana

    Days of the week

  38. Los días de la semana no tienen forma de plural regular, pero pueden usarse en plural:

Days of the week do not have a regular plural form but can be used in the plural:

  39. el lunes / los lunes el martes / los martes el miércoles / los miércoles el jueves / los jueves el viernes / los viernes el sábado / los sábados el domingo / los domingos

Monday / Mondays Tuesday / Tuesdays Wednesday / Wednesdays Thursday / Thursdays Friday / Fridays Saturday / Saturdays Sunday / Sundays

  40. Para utilizarlos en una frase, no hace falta colocar ninguna preposición delante. Mirad los ejemplos:

When using them in a sentence, no preposition is needed before them. Examples:

On Tuesday I have an appointment with my massage therapist.

  44. Los meses

    Months

  45. A diferencia de los días, los meses sí admiten la forma plural, aunque se usa poco. Además, requieren la preposición “en”:

Unlike days of the week, months do have a plural form, although it is rarely used. When referring to a month, the preposition “in” is used. Examples:

  46. En enero vamos a ir a esquiar.

In January we are going skiing.

  47. No tengo vacaciones en agosto este año.
