LAS EXCEPCIONES DE PRESENTE DE SUBJUNTIVO: PERMUTACIÓN DE CONSONANTES EN LA RAÍZ
EXCEPTIONS IN THE PRESENT SUBJUNCTIVE: CONSONANT CHANGES IN THE ROOT
Continuamos viendo las excepciones de Presente de Subjuntivo. Hemos visto algunos verbos que, conjugados en este tiempo verbal, sufren alteraciones vocálicas. Y ahora os voy a mostrar grupos de verbos que al conjugarse cambian alguna consonante. Mirad:
We continue looking at the exceptions in the Present Subjunctive. We have already seen some verbs that, when conjugated in this tense, undergo vowel changes. Now I am going to show you groups of verbs that, when conjugated, change certain consonants. Look:
En los verbos como aparcar, provocar, tocar o sacar la -c cambia por -qu:
In verbs like “to park”, “to provoke”, “to touch” or “to take out”, the letter -c changes to -qu:
Tocar: que yo toque que tú toques que él, ella, usted toque que nosotros, nosotras toquemos que vosotros, vosotras toquéis que ellos, ellas, ustedes toquen
“To touch”: that I touch that you touch that he/she/you (formal) touch that we touch that you (plural) touch that they/you (plural, formal) touch
En los verbos como cocer o vencer en vez de la -c aparecerá una -z:
In verbs like “to boil” or “to defeat”, the letter -c changes to -z:
Cocer: que yo cueza que tú cuezas que él, ella, usted cueza que nosotros, nosotras cozamos que vosotros, vosotras cozáis que ellos, ellas, ustedes cuezan
“To boil”: that I boil that you boil that he/she/you (formal) boil that we boil that you (plural) boil that they/you (plural, formal) boil
En los verbos como llegar, jugar, investigar o pagar, la -g pasará a ser -gu:
In verbs like “to arrive”, “to play”, “to investigate” or “to pay”, the letter -g changes to -gu:
Pagar: que yo pague que tú pagues que él, ella, usted pague que nosotros, nosotras paguemos que vosotros, vosotras paguéis que ellos, ellas, ustedes paguen
“To pay”: that I pay that you pay that he/she/you (formal) pay that we pay that you (plural) pay that they/you (plural, formal) pay
En los verbos como distinguir, seguir (y también conseguir, perseguir) -gu cambiará por -g:
In verbs like “to distinguish”, “to follow” (and also “to obtain”, “to pursue”), -gu changes to -g:
Seguir: que yo siga que tú sigas que él, ella, usted siga que nosotros, nosotras sigamos que vosotros, vosotras sigáis que ellos, ellas, ustedes sigan
“To follow”: that I follow that you follow that he/she/you (formal) follow that we follow that you (plural) follow that they/you (plural, formal) follow
En los verbos como coger (y también escoger, recoger, etc.), corregir y elegir la -g pasará a ser -j:
In verbs like “to take” (and also “to choose”, “to collect”), “to correct” and “to choose”, the letter -g changes to -j:
Coger: que yo coja que tú cojas que él, ella, usted coja que nosotros, nosotras cojamos que vosotros, vosotras cojáis que ellos, ellas, ustedes cojan
“To take”: that I take that you take that he/she/you (formal) take that we take that you (plural) take that they/you (plural, formal) take
Y, por último, en los verbos como organizar, comenzar, empezar, entre otros, la -z pasará a ser -c:
And finally, in verbs like “to organize”, “to begin”, “to start”, the letter -z changes to -c:
Empezar: que yo empiece que tú empieces que él, ella, usted empiece que nosotros, nosotras empecemos que vosotros, vosotras empecéis que ellos, ellas, ustedes empiecen
“To start”: that I start that you start that he/she/you (formal) start that we start that you (plural) start that they/you (plural, formal) start
LOS ADVERBIOS DE DUDA Y POSIBILIDAD QUE REQUIEREN EL USO DEL SUBJUNTIVO
ADVERBS OF DOUBT AND POSSIBILITY THAT REQUIRE THE USE OF THE SUBJUNCTIVE
En el idioma español hay muchos adverbios y locuciones adverbiales que requieren el uso del subjuntivo. Los que os voy a nombrar en la siguiente lista son de duda y posibilidad:
In Spanish there are many adverbs and adverbial phrases that require the use of the subjunctive. The ones I am going to list below express doubt and possibility:
quizá (quizás) – tal vez – igual – probablemente – posiblemente – seguramente
perhaps – maybe – possibly – probably – possibly – surely
Voy a mostraros su uso en la vida real:
Here are some examples of their use in real speech:
Quizá me compre estas playeras, son cómodas para salir a correr.
Perhaps I will buy these sneakers; they are comfortable for running.
¿Dónde está tu hijo? No sé, quizás esté en casa de su novia.
Where is your son? I don’t know, maybe he is at his girlfriend’s house.
Tal vez mañana nos digan las notas del examen.
Maybe tomorrow they will tell us the exam results.
Julio, probablemente, sepa la dirección de María.
Julio probably knows María’s address.
Posiblemente viaje en tren.
Possibly he will travel by train.
Seguramente sepas de lo que te hablo.
Surely you know what I am talking about.
Supongo que os hayáis fijado en que los verbos estar, decir, saber también se conjugan de una manera distinta en subjuntivo. Hablaremos de ellos y algunos más en la próxima lección.
I suppose you have noticed that the verbs “to be”, “to say”, “to know” also conjugate differently in the subjunctive. We will talk about them and some others in the next lesson.
EL VOCABULARIO “VIAJES”
VOCABULARY “TRAVEL”
