Hello! Welcome to the Spanish course from LingTrio. Today we will study another tense of the Subjunctive Mood — this time it is the Present Perfect Subjunctive. We will see how it is formed and how it is used. Ready? Let’s go!
EL PRETÉRITO PERFECTO DE SUBJUNTIVO: SUS FORMAS
THE PRESENT PERFECT SUBJUNCTIVE: ITS FORMS
Hasta ahora hemos estado estudiando el Presente de Subjuntivo, habéis aprendido a formarlo y también habéis visto la mayoría de sus usos. Y hoy pasamos a ver el Pretérito Perfecto de Subjuntivo que se parece bastante al Presente de Subjuntivo en cuanto a algunos de sus usos, pero que se forma de otra manera y tiene sus peculiaridades.
Until now, we have been studying the Present Subjunctive: you have learned how to form it and also seen most of its uses. Today we move on to the Present Perfect Subjunctive, which is quite similar to the Present Subjunctive in some of its functions, but is formed in another way and has its own particularities.
La diferencia más significativa entre estos dos tiempos verbales es la siguiente: mientras que el Presente de Subjuntivo se utiliza para hablar de algo que está sucediendo (o es posible que suceda) ahora, el Pretérito Perfecto de Subjuntivo se utiliza para hablar de las cosas ocurridas en el pasado, pero que tienen relevancia en el presente.
The most important difference between these two tenses is the following: while the Present Subjunctive is used to talk about something happening now (or something that may happen now), the Present Perfect Subjunctive is used to talk about actions completed in the past but still relevant in the present.
El Pretérito Perfecto de Subjuntivo se forma mediante las formas del verbo “haber" en el Presente de Subjuntivo a las que se les añade el participio. Os recuerdo las formas del verbo “haber” en el Presente de Subjuntivo, por si acaso:
The Present Perfect Subjunctive is formed with the verb “to have” in the Present Subjunctive, followed by the past participle. Here are the forms of “to have” in the Present Subjunctive, just in case:

(have) you have

(have) he, she, it has
hayamos
(have) we have
hayáis
(have) you (plural) have

(have) they have
Y el Pretérito Perfecto de Subjuntivo, va a tener las siguientes formas:
And the Present Perfect Subjunctive will have the following forms:
Tomar:
Verb “to take”:
que yo haya tomado
that I have taken
que tú hayas tomado
that you have taken
que él, ella, usted haya tomado
that he, she, you (formal) has/have taken
que nosotros, nosotras hayamos tomado
that we have taken
que vosotros, vosotras hayáis tomado
that you (plural) have taken
que ellos, ellas, ustedes hayan tomado
that they/you (plural formal) have taken
Comer:
Verb “to eat”:
que yo haya comido
that I have eaten
que tú hayas comido

que él, ella, usted haya comido
that he, she, you (formal) has/have eaten
que nosotros, nosotras hayamos comido
