A Day Between Work and Study

Je me réveille à 6h30, quand la ville commence à peine à s’animer.

I wake up at 6:30, when the city is just starting to come alive.

Mon rituel du matin — une tasse de thé vert et la lecture des nouvelles dans une langue étrangère. C’est ma façon d’apprendre de nouveaux mots sans manuel.

My morning ritual is a cup of green tea and reading the news in a foreign language. It’s my way of learning new words without a textbook.

Aujourd’hui, au travail, nous avons une rencontre avec un client japonais, alors je révise quelques phrases en japonais pour faire bonne impression.

Today at work we have a meeting with a client from Japan, so I review a few Japanese phrases to make a good impression.

J’ai récemment appris qu’au Japon, on reçoit toujours une carte de visite à deux mains et on la lit attentivement avant de la ranger — c’est un signe de respect.

I recently learned that in Japan, you always receive a business card with both hands and read it carefully before putting it away — it’s a sign of respect.

Dans le métro, j’écoute un podcast sur la manière de planifier son temps efficacement. Il s’avère que la règle «25 minutes de travail — 5 minutes de pause» aide vraiment à se concentrer.

On the subway, I listen to a podcast about how to plan time effectively. It turns out the “25 minutes work — 5 minutes rest” rule really helps with concentration.

Au bureau, je montre la présentation au client, et il sourit en entendant mon «おはようございます» — «Bonjour» en japonais.

At the office, I show the client the presentation, and he smiles when he hears my “おはようございます” — “Good morning” in Japanese.

Après le travail, je vais à la bibliothèque pour un cours du soir de psychologie. Aujourd’hui, nous discutons de pourquoi on retient mieux l’information quand on l’explique aux autres.

After work, I go to the library for an evening psychology lecture. Today we discuss why people remember information better when they explain it to others.

Je pense que cela peut s’appliquer à mon travail et à l’apprentissage des langues.

I think this can be applied both to my job and to learning languages.

Je rentre à la maison tard, mais je sens que chaque jour peut être utile si l’on y cherche quelque chose de nouveau.

I come home late, but I feel that every day can be useful if you look for something new in it.
