Two Dinners in One Day

Stuffy Pete sat on his usual bench in Union Square on Thanksgiving Day.

Every year, an old gentleman met him there and bought him a big dinner.

Каждый год пожилой джентльмен встречал его там и покупал ему большой обед.

But this year was different. Two kind women had already given Pete a huge meal.

He ate turkey, potatoes, pie, and pudding, and now he was completely full.

Then the old gentleman arrived and smiled. “Come with me. It is time for dinner.”

Pete did not want to hurt the man’s feelings, so he said nothing about the first meal.

At the restaurant, more soup, meat, vegetables, and pie came to the table.

Pete slowly ate everything, although every bite was difficult.

Later, Pete became sick and went to the hospital because he had eaten too much.

A doctor also found the old gentleman in the hospital: he had eaten nothing for three days.

Там оказался и пожилой джентльмен: выяснилось, что он сам ничего не ел три дня.
